The Mistlands of Valheim have been deforested
The Mistlands of Valheim has proven to be one of the game’s longest-lasting mysteries, at least for players who don’t just browse the wiki. The Mistlands serve as a fictional biome and will be expanded to all their glory in the next major biome update. Until then, it was just a cool, spooky place with giant trees and cobwebs – at least that was until the most recent update.
As the patch notes simply say “Removed clutter from spawning in the Mistlands (it’s now … very empty)”. And, indeed, it is very empty. All of the Mistlands you previously explored will still have their trees and spider webs, but all of the unexplored Mistlands will now appear as empty, gently rolling terrain. It’s still pretty dark there, at least.
“The finalized Mistlands won’t have the giant trees that were there in the placeholder biome,” Valheim’s community manager explains on Reddit. “We don’t know yet whether or not you’ll need a completely new world to get the new content when it finally gets updated, but we’ll make some sort of announcement about it as soon as we know for sure. ! “
Pour one for the old Mistlands. (And my Viking clothes, lost at sea taking this screenshot.)
Valheim’s roadmap has a long way to go, but the immediate future includes new mountain caves. For more Viking games to check out in the meantime, you can follow this link.
