Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous sold 250k, proving there’s life in D&D 3.5
D&D 3.5 is pretty directly responsible for some of the greatest RPG games of all time, including Temple of Elemental Evil and Neverwinter Nights. While D&D itself has taken new directions – which in turn have resulted in things as great as Baldur’s Gate 3 – Pathfinder’s first edition still keeps that classic d20 spirit alive in the digital space with games like Wrath. of the Righteous.
And he does it with great success. Developer Owlcat and publisher META announced in a press release that Pathfinder: Wrath of the Righteous had already surpassed 250,000 copies sold in its first week. We’ve seen Wrath of the Righteous reach impressive heights in the Steam charts before, where it’s still the best single-player RPG on the platform. (Although Tales of Arise isn’t far behind.)
Wrath of the Righteous had a much better launch than its predecessor, Kingmaker, which suffered from some pretty damning bugs when it was first released. Just over 80% of Steam’s reviews of the new game are positive, and the developers have already released a series of fixes that address some of the more pressing issues.
Owlcat also published a new development journal breaking down some of the lore.
