The Surge 2 – Quick Tips for Getting Started |
Ready to get your posterior back? Worried that you can’t handle the game’s brutal enemies? Bad credit? I can’t help you with that last one, but here are some quick tips to get you started. Surge 2.
Blocking is not your best friend
Blocking is obvious in most souls-love. In Surge 2, it works, but it comes with a very significant stamina hit. Your entire stamina gauge can be depleted with a single powerful hit, preventing you from blocking, dodging, or attacking. It is therefore important to block only as a last resort. Parrying or dodging will be safer bets.
Important implants
Most of the implants aren’t necessary, but some will be very, very useful for managing the game’s systems. You’ll still want the enemy health info implant to be active, because knowing how many extra punishments they may suffer will be a lifesaver. It doesn’t cost base energy, but it does take an implant slot, so keep that in mind.
The other very important one is the implant that tells you when enemies are attacking and which direction they are attacking from. Surge 2 uses a directional parry system, and it can be difficult to parry in time without this implant, as enemies don’t always telegraph their attacks clearly. This one, however, uses several base energies. Speaking of what…
Keep your heart in mind
Every piece of armor you equip and every implant you insert uses a certain amount of base energy. You start Surge 2 with a fixed amount and can only increase it in two ways. First, you increase your base energy by a single point each time you level up. It also gives you two points to put into one of the three stats. Each time you level up, you also get a new implant slot, which will further drain your base energy.
Second, there are implants you can use to increase your base energy. There aren’t many of them, but they’re great for giving you a little extra punch when you want to equip a heavier implant or wear heavy armor. Keep in mind, however, that you are not allowed to equip anything that puts you above your maximum energy level.
Dodge if you can’t parry
Surge 2 really wants you to bet your enemies, especially during boss fights. However, this is easier said than done, as the parry mechanic requires very precise timing to pull off and is honestly a bit janky and unreliable. So what do you do if you can’t pull off these parries? It’s simple: dodge as much as you can. This can make some boss battles much longer, but you’ll spend less time dragging out a tedious fight than you repeatedly would because you couldn’t get the parry. Dodging here is also very quick and useful, so you should be using it constantly anyway.
Get good armor
Enemies can hit extremely hard in Surge 2, so you’re going to want to equip yourself with armor. The most powerful armor in the game is goliath armor, and it drops from bigger enemies. The bigger guys in Port Nixon wear this, so it’s a good idea to farm the one on the ruined highway near the medbay. You only have to finish one of these enemies four times to get a full set, and that’s good enough to last the whole game.
The enemy right next to the medbay with twin buzzsaws is also a good place to farm early on, as it’s all on its own and you can take it out pretty quickly. You need three crafting gear of each tier to upgrade a single piece, so farming can take a while. But you will also accumulate additional technological waste, which will save you from wasting time.
Go back to your scrap!
Surge 2The currency of is tech scrap, and, you guessed it, you give it up when you die. Unlike similar games, however, you can’t go back to get it your way. You only have 2.5 minutes to grab it before it expires. But you get 20 seconds added to the clock each time you kill an enemy, so you still have some time. Don’t delay, otherwise you could lose a lot of money.
Take it to the bank
Another change from similar games is that you can bank all your currencies. That’s right – you don’t have to invest it in points just to save it in case you die. You can store it in any medbay for future use. You can also find piles of junk in the environment and on defeated enemies, which you can directly convert into tech junk in the bank.
Upgrade your weapons as soon as possible
You’re going to want to upgrade your weapon damage as soon as you start dealing with higher level enemies. Once you find one of these enemies near a medbay, don’t be shy about slicing their arms 3-6 times. This will give you enough crafting materials to upgrade two weapons. While armor doesn’t usually give much of a boost for unique upgrades, weapon level can make quite a difference, so it’s a great thing to focus on.
Don’t forget to return your recordings
Surge 2 has over 50 audio recordings to find. These fill in the story details, of course, but you can also use them to get lots of extra scrap from the vending machine on the upper level of the octopus building. For every dozen records you find, this machine will give you a bunch of junk, so remember to log back in so you don’t miss a thing.
Use your drone to distract your enemies
Facing multiple enemies can be a pain, but you can keep them at bay with well-timed drone attacks. Most of them use consumable ammo, but you’ll find a ton of it, so don’t bother hoarding it. You can also buy more for cheap if you need them. Feel free to use whatever ammo you have on hand to stop your enemies dead in their tracks.
