A Warren County man who went missing on Sunday apparently died in a motorcycle crash. His body and his motorbike were found in kudzu covering the edge of a roadway.
According to Vicksburg Police Department information, Steven Strong, 66, was heading north on North Washington Street when the wreckage occurred between 9 p.m. and 10 p.m. Sunday. According to the accident report, Strong went one way and the bike the other.
Warren County Deputy Fire Coordinator Shane Garrard found Strong’s remains and the motorcycle around 2:25 p.m. Tuesday in an overgrown area near a stream near the intersection.
Garrard said he, County Fire Coordinator Jerry Briggs, Deputy Chief Sheriff Billy Joe Heggins and another deputy were looking for Strong in an area on MS 3 when he received a “ping” or signal from the Strong’s phone indicating he was closer to the Chickasaw community. off North Washington Street.
“I said to Jerry, let’s go back over there (to Chickasaw) and look and cover from North Washington to Highway 3,” he said.
Garrard said he passed the Central Asphalt plant on North Washington Street and deviated from the normal route, taking a bridge near the plant.
âI saw something blue in the kudzu and backed up and saw chrome and that was him (Strong),â he said.
Garrard found the site where Strong left the road, followed the trail, and found it.
Strong was pronounced dead at the scene by Warren County Coroner Doug Huskey. The wreckage is still under investigation by Vicksburg Police.
