Mikele, 28 minutes agoAOSP = Android Open Source Project It was declared from day one!
I have not seen this stated anywhere. Later when they revealed what they were doing, then I saw it, but it’s not the first day.

Anonymous, 4 hours agoJesus, can you all stop complaining that HarmonyOS is not a brand new operating system? Who says first … moreThat’s a good point. But. If it is based on AOSP, will it be free of any spyware (tracking etc) and built-in / required services, so users can have full privacy? This would have a major selling point. Of course, manufacturers can still hide the spy on the phone as usual, but it’s a step in the right direction. And are the services going to be free and open, so that anyone can sign up to independent private service providers, with user data accessible and saved locally? Nokia would love that, and once someone like Nokia is on board with something like that, providing end-to-end secure services, that would really be something to take off. There is a need for an open privacy phone like this for IT pros, business users, and geeks (though, sometimes you have to think, “ Really man! How can you not. Know, all the follow-up scandals have been going on for years, and you are treating it like a fictitious tin foil conspiracy! “It’s amazing how blind some of them are.” No, no! Of course, companies and governments wouldn’t do that! Maybe these reports were written by the guys who wrote âThe Matrix.â Is that a more plausible theory? ‘). Either way, Nokia could be the next Apple! ð.
But, it really has to be a better operating system, something at QNX level. The old Tantric software was for Amiga replacement libraries (some of which were in QNX). In real time, robust, efficient and secure. BlackBerry got their hands on QNX. For a computer scientist, running Linux would be better than Android, even if it used JavaScript (in Firefox OS) as a portable front-end. I ran a word office like a word processor on my phone. Things can be done. I prefer to stream Linux apps to a monitor and / or TV and use a keyboard and mouse, and ditch the computer more.

Okabe, 2 hours agoVery good a new ecosystem for phones. It will not be accepted by anyone other than Huawei / Honor. And that’s not enough to be successful. Without the official backing of the major app producers, he died on arrival.

Pain in the ass with a new OS, but after a while they will become a big competitor to the current Android as a non-US OS.
It’s even easier to come to terms with the best in the world, although upcoming Huawei devices may be late in launch dates.

They were closing an upgrade to replace it, but didn’t feel like it was an Android upgrade. I would have had more respect for them if it was based on Firefox OS, Linux, or just something better.

What happens to all of your Playstore purchases after you convert? Various people will farm hundreds of dollars or even thousands. Huawei, to respond to all its criticisms, will have to separate itself from Harmony OS infrastructures and services and transfer them to a neutral country such as Sweden, Switzerland or Iceland, and arrange with the publishers to provide free downloads of the existing playstore purchases. The situation is so difficult that the distribution of applications and services may have to be independent of the stores, the latter being only front-ends.

Anonymous, 4 hours agoJesus, can you all stop complaining that HarmonyOS is not a brand new operating system? Who says first … moreIt makes sense. Start with a version that is compatible with Android and its apps and once it gets the traction you need, slowly migrate to a new environment.

Fanboy of all brands, 5 hours agoHuawei phones are very bad on software. Whether it’s your experience or your updates. Even Huawei’s flagship … moreSoftware is subjective. Emui would be my favorite at least compared to miui and Color OS which are the other skins I’ve been using lately. Mostly, I liked it best for desktop mode, translation features, and better nfc functionality compared to the other two. But everyone has their own preferences for software because we value different things.
Very good a new ecosystem for phones.

Well, we can say all the negative things about HarmonyOS, but all of that won’t change the fact that the operating system is here now. The point is, the Chinese will eventually jump on it.

Anonymous, 4 hours agoJesus, can you all stop complaining that HarmonyOS is not a brand new operating system? Who says first … moreMost people fail to get an overview of Huawei and this HarmonyOS. In 5 years, it will be a whole new thing. These are only the first phases of transition. All they need now is develop the name, make it easier for people to migrate and as long as people think it’s Android they’ll trust it more.

SpikyEchidna, 4 hours agoThis is not actually trolling, several xda developers have delved deeply into the HarmonyOS beta 2 … moreIt is detected as Android by all Android apps, but it is not Android, like Windows with WSL, there is Linux as a subsystem and Linux apps will not detect windows because they are running in the sub. Linux system. As simple as that, that’s what HarmonyOS has done

Jesus, can you all stop complaining that HarmonyOS is not a brand new operating system? Who said the first iteration has to be absolutely, totally different? Also, why would Huawei kill Android as the basis of it and remove the last remaining compatibility? It would be just plain stupid. Early versions of Ubuntu probably weren’t that much different from Debian at first, but now they’re very different. The same can happen with HarmonyOS. Its foundation is AOSP Android and over time it will go in its own direction. It may still be essentially Android to maintain compatibility, but it will evolve on its own.

TEtech, 4 hours agohttps://twitter.com/RODENT950/status/1396410412074209286?s=20Android apps recognize it as an emulator? It’s interesting. I think virtualizing Android in HarmonyOS would be easier than emulation. This is how Windows runs Linux in WSL.
