Good Samaritan Society Uses Vaccination Mandate As Recruitment Tool For Nationwide Hiring Event
SIOUX FALLS, SD (KELO) – More than 100 Good Samaritan Society sites across the country are holding recruiting events on Wednesday, using the vaccination mandate as a recruiting tool.
Jenna Szymanski is a nurse at Luther Manor in Sioux Falls, but to her residents, Jenna considers herself family.
“I’m attached to all of them,” Jenna said.
This is why working during the early stages of the pandemic was so stressful.
“Huge fear,” Jenna said. “My worst anxiety was that while shopping I would pick up the virus and bring it back here and end up killing the people I love and care for.”
But then the vaccine arrived, bringing relief and hope.
“We believe the vaccine is the best tool we have for keeping people safe,” said Nate Schema, vice president of operations for the Good Samaritan Society.
Schema says that right now he believes the Good Samaritan’s facilities are among the safest places you can work.
“From the very beginning, we were one of the very first healthcare organizations to impose the vaccine and we’ve actually seen an increase in the number of people applying for positions,” Schema said.
Now they are using the vaccination mandate as a marketing tool to help recruit more workers.
“An Indeed study recently told us that people are afraid to go back to work because of covid, which I would tell people, we are one of the safest places with our vaccination rates soon to be 100%. cent across all of our sites, ”Schema said.
It’s a statistic that gives employees like Jenna a lot of relief and confidence in the workplace.
“I’m immunocompromised, I’m a young diabetic, and I don’t really want to expose myself to the possibility of getting sick and ending up in the hospital. So for me that’s a huge plus point where you work is to have a tenure, ”Jenna said.
Yet another reason why Jenna loves her job and hopes others will too.
“Absolutely, we need more people to come and help these residents,” she said.
From more nurses, CNA, food service and housing maintenance, Good Sam is looking to hire more than 500 employees in 22 states during Wednesday’s hiring event.
