FireFox Gold Completes Airborne Magnetic Survey and Proceeds with Permit Applications on the Kolho Property, Lapland, Finland
SODANKYLÄ, FINLAND / ACCESSWIRE / May 12, 2022 / FireFox Gold Corp. (TSXV: FFOX)(OTCQB: FFOXF) (“FireFox” or the “Company”) reports that it has completed a detailed airborne geophysical survey focused on its extensive Kolho property in Lapland, Finland. This is the third phase of aerial surveys completed over the Company’s northern group of properties in the past two years and extends the Company’s detailed magnetic data contiguous coverage in the area to more than 250 km.2 (see Figure 1: https://bit.ly/3L4wyUc). FireFox is also pleased to announce that it is filing several exploration permit applications covering most of the Kolho Reserve.
Carl Löfberg, President and CEO of FireFox commented “Our field mapping of the Kolho property had suggested that it was a structurally complex area with geological analogies to the parameters of the multi-million ounce gold deposits in the area. This magnetic survey confirmed structural similarities to the Kittilä mine and the Ikkari deposit, and identified new, previously unmapped structures, all of which provide attractive exploration targets for follow-up work.”
Highlights of the magnetic data from the Kolho region include:
-
Similarities, in both EM and Mag, between Kolho’s east-central property and Rupert Resource’s Ikkari deposit framework (see Figure 2: https://bit.ly/3M5Vlsf); and
-
Banded NS features trending northwest through the Sarvi-Lehto-Kolho properties show similarities to the Kittilä/Kiistala shear zone (see Figure 3: https://bit.ly/3M8OPRy); and
-
New unmapped structures have been identified and provide further targets for exploration (eg SE Kolho with isoclinal folding and crosscutting features and/or the center of Kolho where two new major structural intersections have been interpreted).
Based in part on these new geophysics, combined with data from reconnaissance geological traverses, mapping and sampling, FireFox is filing an application for five separate exploration permits, which will largely cover the exploration reserve. of Kolho and will allow detailed mechanized works, including drilling. The FireFox technical team continues to evaluate the magnetic data to focus follow-up work planned for 2022-23. Two priority targets were identified based on similarities in apparent structure and magnetism with the Ikkari discovery (see Figure 2: https://bit.ly/3M5Vlsf). Additional targets will be generated ahead of the next phase of exploration, which will likely include basal till (BoT) sampling which is expected to begin in the most prospective portions of the Kolho property later this year.
Airborne magnetic survey details
The recently completed airborne magnetic survey covered more than 100 km2 focused primarily on the Kolho property in the eastern portion of the North Group. Taking into account previous surveys carried out in 2020 and 2021, the company now has more than 250 km2 of contiguous magnetic survey data for the region. Recent work has been carried out by the Finnish company Radai, which has extensive experience in providing geophysical surveys using unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs). The technical team of GoldSpot Discoveries Corp. (TSX.V: SPOT) performed other structural interpretations of the geophysical data.
The Kolho property includes a large area along a major geological break – the eastern contact between the Kittilä suite and rocks of the Savukoski group. This contact is an important thrust which tends towards the east, towards the quartzites of the Sodankylä group and the Archean complex of Pomokaira (tonalitic granodiorites and gneisses). This contact zone forms a 23 kilometer long thrust zone, which is straddled by the Kolho property.
Rocks of the Kittilä Suite are bordered by rocks of the Sodankylä and Savukoski groups to the east, and elsewhere by various types of granitoids. The Kittilä Suite includes volcano-sedimentary remnants of an oceanic island arc and obducted ophiolitic rim on passive margin terranes later intruded by post-collisional granites. The Kolho property is structurally complex and hosts a lithological package similar to that observed in Rupert Resources’ Zone 1, which is a high priority exploration model for all explorers in Lapland.
Further interpretation of the data revealed multiple areas where these prospective lithologies are either significantly folded or cut by multiple proposed structures. The more detailed data also revealed previously unmapped structures in the area.

About FireFox Gold Corp.
FireFox Gold Corp is listed on the TSX Venture Exchange under the ticker symbol FFOX. FireFox also trades on the OTCQB Venture Market Exchange in the United States under the symbol FFOXF. The company has been exploring for gold in Finland since 2017, where it holds a huge portfolio of potential land.
Finland is one of the world’s leading mining investment jurisdictions, as indicated by its multiple top 10 rankings in recent Fraser Institute surveys of mining companies. Having strong mining legislation and a long mining tradition, Finland remains under-explored for gold. Recent exploration results in the country have highlighted its prospectivity, and FireFox is proud to have a Finland-based CEO and technical team.
