EDC launches technology accelerator training initiative with first course in HTML, CSS, JavaScript

The San Juan County Economic Development Council (EDC), in an effort to train local workers for skilled, well-paying tech jobs, has launched a Tech Accelerator training initiative to serve young islanders, the unemployed, and working people. underemployed and business owners in need of technology assistance. for their businesses. This initiative was launched by EDC in partnership with the City of Friday Harbor, San Juan County and the Raynier Institute.
The first technical training course offered will be in HTML, CSS and JavaScript, launched in June this year. The course will be offered online by Johns Hopkins University, and a cohort of students will meet weekly with an EDC advisor to achieve successful benchmarks, working their own schedules.
In the course, participants will work from scratch, learning the basics of modern web pages with HTML and CSS. At the end of the course, students will use JavaScript to create a fully functional web application. The instruction is open to San Juan County participants over the age of 18 who wish to pursue a career in web development.
The course is divided into weekly assignments that can be completed on your own schedule. EDC will hold consultative meetings on Tuesdays and Thursdays at 10:00 a.m., from June 14 to July 21, 2022, via Zoom. These meetings will give participants the opportunity to work as a group on course assignments, ask questions and discuss course material. EDC will cover all course fees except for the required $50 registration fee.
