Chrome is preparing a new feature that automatically finds discounts when you shop
Everyone loves saving money, and it looks like Google wants to use Chrome to help you find the best product discounts, according to a new pledge found in Chromium Gerrit.
Chrome Story spotted the commit, which shows Google is working on a feature that would allow Chrome to automatically grab coupons for discounts when shopping online. It would display a notification with the coupon description and the discount percentage for the items in your cart.
The feature is very similar to Honey, which is one of the best Chrome extensions for working from home thanks to its ability to quickly extract discount codes. It’s also a feature that’s already built into competing browsers like Microsoft Edge. Soon it can arrive on the Chrome browser without needing to download a specific extension for the feature to work.
VPN offers: lifetime license for $ 16, monthly plans for $ 1 and more
Chrome Story notes that the feature doesn’t appear to be available on Chrome Canary, which is typically where experimental features first appear before rolling out to Chrome’s beta and stable channels. That said, if you want to try out new features, it’s always helpful to know how to enable flags in Chrome, which can provide access to hidden Chrome features that are often quite handy.
The new coupon feature is just the latest example of Google’s scaling up e-commerce efforts. During Google I / O 2021, the company announced a partnership with Shopify that experts called “Google’s pivot and masterstroke.” The partnership would give merchants more visibility on Google’s shopping platforms, which could challenge Amazon’s dominance.
