Saints report: CSS men’s and women’s basketball fall to St. Olaf – Reuters
NORTHFIELD, Minn. –St. Scholastica’s Miranda Broberg scored 27 points and hit seven 3-pointers, but the Saints fell to Minnesota Intercollegiate Athletic Conference opponent St. Olaf 67-59 in Wednesday’s regular season finale.
CSS hit 11 long-range shots in the game, but only shot 33% from the field and no other Saint scored more than nine points.
CSS led by one point after the first quarter, but only hit two shots – both 3-pointers – in the second and trailed by three at halftime.
K-Lynn Lewis scored 24 points and was one of three Oles with at least 13 points.
While the Saints shot well from the outside, St. Olaf dominated inside, edging CSS 28-10 in the paint.
CSS (3-21, 3-19) will face fifth-seeded St. Benedict in an MIAC Tournament qualifier at 1 p.m. Saturday in St. Joseph.
St. Scholastica’s Nick Carlson and Noah Winesett each scored 14 points, but the Saints couldn’t keep pace with St. Olaf in a 91-74 loss in Wednesday’s MIAC game at Duluth.
Carlson scored nine of his points in the first half and helped the Saints take a 35-34 halftime lead. St. Olaf responded by shooting nearly 65 percent from the field and was 7 for 12 from 3 points in the second half where CSS was outscored 57-39.
The Saints’ 12 turnovers led to 21 points from St. Olaf, while the Oles had just five turnovers in the game.
Esko’s Quinn Fischer was the only other double-digit CSS player with 10 points.
St. Olaf’s Dominic Bledsoe led all scorers with 22 points and five Oles scored at least 12 points.
CSS (5-20, 3-17) will face No. 6 Macalester in an MIAC Tournament qualifier at 3 p.m. Saturday in St. Paul.
